Hi folks,
In response to Moray's prompting on d-d-a, I'm writing to confirm that we
are interested in putting forth a bid to host DebConf14 in Portland, OR.
http://wiki.debconf.org/wiki/DebConf14/Portland
The bid page is still a bit light on logistical details, but we have a
prospective lead on space associated with Portland State University which we
believe would be a good fit for a DebConf.
I know the bid process for this year is generally behind schedule. Can the
DebConf team please provide a deadline for completion of
<https://wiki.debconf.org/wiki/LocationCheckList> for Portland to be
considered?

20:00 UTC == 12pm Pacific. If other Portland folks can make it to the IRC
meeting, that would be keen - if we're going to try to put on DC14 here in
Portland, we'll need more people to become familiar with the DebConf
processes and start participating.
BTW, I'm maintaining an ical feed of DebConf meetings; so if, like me, you
find it impossible to keep track of this kind of thing without a calendar
reminder, you may also find the below link useful:

Well, comparing with the bid checklist I think it's still very rough - we
may have venue+accom pricing, but there are a lot of important details
(food, network room, 24h access, handicap accessibility) that aren't yet
filled in at all, and I think that several of these points could scuttle
this venue choice if they don't turn out in our favor; so I am planning to
follow through on getting more complete data in time for this extended
deadline. (Preferably by dividing and conquering among the local team. :)

Done.
Thanks,

We're already a bit behind this year for our monthly quota.
Do we meet on Third Thursdays? Fourth?
Shall we, on the 21st? 28th?
The usual time and place?
7pm
Lucky Lab SE

Portland, OR 97214
eh?
live well,

Hot on the heels of the successful BSP this Sunday (8 bugs down, 180 to
go!), it's time for another Debian beering - and the last one of the year.
Lucky Lab SE
915 SE Hawthorne Blvd
Portland, OR 97214
Thursday, 7pm 'til some time after that!
And if you sign up to be an organizer on
<http://wiki.debconf.org/wiki/DebConf14/Portland>, I might be inclined to
buy you a beer :)

Hello Debian Portland Social Group,
Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Ryan and I'm been a long
time fan of Debian and looking to make friends and get involved in the
community. I'm mostly just a computer/Linux hobbyist and was hoping to
meet and hang-out with like minded individuals to brainstorm and
collaborate on ideas for cool things to do with computers.
I started toying with Debian back at 3.0 until I got to distracted with
my videogame/Steam addiction around the release of KDE 4. I am getting
my feet wet again and getting ready to setup a home server for media
streaming + backups and debating on throwing in a webserver and perhaps
a PBX just for fun.
Nice to meet you all,
~Ryan
So it was proposed to do a Bug Squashing party on Sunday, December 9th, if i
recall correctly?
Freegeek might be available to host space any the 9th, 16th, or 30th:
http://freegeek.org/calendar
On the 9th, we'd have to reschedule our cabling party, but that's *probably*
possible.
On the 16th, we'd have to share with the Linux Clinic PLUG folks, but that
shouldn't be too much of a problem, we'd just have to use a different room,
which worked fine in the past.
live well,
vagrant
Hello All,
The 6th Annual Winter Coders Social is coming up next month and I just
wanted to pass the word along in case folks from the Debian Community
wanted to come. The event should be a well mixed group of developers from
all the local companies and folks from various user groups.
If someone from Debian does attend perhaps they might fill this out this:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dEVraFRiczF1SE9XdjJjMX…
Anyways here is the official announcement:
The 6th Annual Winter Coders' Social and Potluck is just around the
corner. Add it to your calendar:
http://calagator.org/events/1250463028
* WHEN: Tuesday, December 11, 2012 from 6–10pm
* WHERE: Urban Airship, 334 NW 11th Avenue, Portland, OR 97209
http://goo.gl/maps/U6mC
* POTLUCK: Signup at: http://bit.ly/winter-social-2012-potluck
* RAFFLE: Many excellent prizes will be available.
Join Portland's tech community in celebrating the end of another year.
This is a fun, free annual event where members of local user groups
and their families are invited to mingle, eat and play games. This is
the sixth time the event's been held and it's lots of fun every time.
We'll have a potluck, so you're welcome to bring something yummy to
share with others. If possible, label your food and whether it meets
particular dietary needs, e.g. "vegan", "vegetarian", gluten-free",
etc. If you'd like, tell others what you plan to bring, or see what
others are bringing at: http://bit.ly/winter-social-2012-potluck. We'll
provide some beverages, plates, cups, utensils and napkins.
Like games? Bring your favorites and play them with others. We'll have
some rooms with tables set aside. Have an activity or contest that
you'd like to organize? Join the discussion at
https://groups.google.com/group/pdxgroups.
Please spread the word, all are welcome. See you there!

Hey all,
Thursday is the third Thursday again. They do seem to sneak up (and whiz
by). Since we've managed the 3rd Thursday to not be on Thanksgiving, how
about we celebrate with beer?
Lucky Lab SE, 7pm, etc. etc.?
